Edmonton Kentucky - A Delightful Small Town Along The Cumberland Parkway

The future site of Edmonton was surveyed by Revolutionary War veteran Edmund P. Rogers in 1800. The town was established by the Kentucky legislature as a trading post in 1836 and subsequently named the county seat in 1860.

The local post office opened on March 24, 1826, and was named for Edmund Rogers, albeit with an incorrect spelling.

20 years later, Edmonton was still a small and sleepy town with one school, one store, one tannery and one doctor.The seat of Metcalfe County, Edmonton is a delightful small town located along the Cumberland Parkway.

Visitors come from miles around to experience the October Pumpkin Festival! It offers parades, contests, games, antiques, a car show, a tractor show, live music, a 5K run/walk and even a beauty pageant.

Health care needs are served by the offices of Edmonton Primary Care and Metcalfe Family Physicians. Nearby hospitals include Monroe County Medical Center and Jane Todd Crawford Memorial Hospital, both 19 miles away.

Higher education is provided by 4 institutions within 70 miles of town, including Elizabethtown Community College, Western Kentucky University, Tennessee Technological University and Volunteer State Community College. 4 public schools offer education to local students of all levels from pre-school up through the end of high school.

Metcalfe County Lake is the perfect location for fishing fans to angle for channel catfish, bluegill, largemouth bass and rainbow trout as well as some crappie. Hunters will appreciate the population of deer and raccoon throughout the county and state, too.

Every summer, visitors come from miles around to experience the Annual Blueberry Festival. It features live music, a blueberry bake-off, blueberry shakes, games and prizes, craft booths, a karaoke contest, antique cars, pancake breakfasts, barbecue, clowns, cake walks, raffles, a coloring contest and even more!

Edmonton's public recreation facilities include 2 parks, a motocross course, Gene's Skating Rink and the Kentucky Hills Golf Course.
